Philippe was the first of his name in the 11th Century, crowned multiple times, and built the foundation for modern France. Considered widely to be a good man and king, he himself, however, believed the weight of his sins were too great to be buried near his relatives. Hence, to his own judgement, the red eyes became the symbol of his earthly hedonism.
